Prospect Watch: The Chihuahuas got the go-ahead run into scoring position in the ninth, but couldn’t push him across as they fell in Sacramento. Luis Campusano reached base two more times, including with an RBI single, and now has a 21 day on-base streak. For the month, he is batting .464 with a 1.494 OPS. He has 12 extra-base-hits, 13 walks, and 20 RBIs in 15 games. … Yonathan Perlaza collected his third home run in six games. The 26-year-old now has a .561 slugging percentage in August and is on his way to a monthly OPS over .900 for the fourth time in five months. … A few innings later Nate Mondou went deep for the fifth time this season to tie his total from last year. While the infielder isn’t known for his pop, he has maintained a .400 on-base percentage through most of the year. … Taking his demotion with his head up high, Tyler Wade reached base four times while playing second base. The 30-year old has had a sizzling start to his Triple-A campaign, 333/.423/.467 since being DFA, including six steals in ten games. He has reached base multiple times in seven of his 10 starts.

Prospect Watch: Miguel Mendez is learning the difference between being a pitcher and a thrower. His velocity is still sitting in the upper-90s, and his slider and changeup still look deadly. However, unlike in A-Ball, Double-A hitters were able to punish him when he misses. Mendez was spectacular through the first four, only allowing one solo home run. Then things fell apart in the fifth, as he gave up three straight hard hits and walking a batter before he got chased. While the 7.53 ERA through three starts is far from ideal, Mendez still has a 2.69 ERA with an organization-leading 107 strikeouts in 87 innings. … After seeing his streak of nearly four months without allowing a run came to an end last week, Garrett Hawkins has bounced back quickly. Hawkins came on with the go-ahead run at second and two outs in the sixth. He escaped the jam then pitched around a one-out triple in the seventh to earn his first career Double-A win. The 25-year-old has a 2.45 ERA with 9 strikeouts in 7.1 innings since joining the Missions. After missing nearly two years after undergoing Tommy John, Hawkins is 9-1 with a 1.58 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP this season. … Hawkins earned the win thanks to Albert Fabian‘s third Double-A home run and fifth overall. Fabian, still coming back after a leg injury that ended his 2024 campaign, is hitting .291/.362/.430 in 46 games. … One day after being promoted to San Antonio, Ryan Jackson was perfect at the plate in his debut. Jackson went 2-for-2 with a run scored. The 23-year-old shortstop has a .409 OBP in 111 games across three levels this season. … In Game 2, Romeo Sanabria went deep for his 11th home run of the season. It was just his second homer since July 25 and first since August 3.

Prospect Watch: Rehabbing big leaguer John Means and two relievers held the TinCaps to only five hits in a shutout loss. Eguy Rosario returned to action for the first time since June 3 and drew a walk in his first plate appearances before striking out and grounding out in his other two. The 25-year-old had been viewed as a virtual lock to make the Padres this spring. When he didn’t, and surprisingly made it through waivers, but struggled mightily with El Paso hitting .194 with a .509 OPS over six weeks. Padres sent him down to Peoria to get his head right, but he ended up with a sports hernia that cost him three months. The longest-tenured player in the organization will look to get back on track going into the end of the season. He had a stellar 1.023 OPS against left-handers last year in El Paso. … Ian Koenig took the tough luck loss after entering the seventh inning with a three-hit shutout. But Lake County got to him for two hits and a home run to quickly turn it around. Koenig has now pitched into the seventh inning in three straight games and his fifth quality start over his last seven starts. … Josh Mallitz finished the game with 1.2 scoreless innings for his seventh scoreless outings in his last eight appearances. The righty has a 27.3% strikeout rate on the year. … Brendan Durfee had the TinCaps’ only extra-base-hit as he doubled to extend his hitting streak to five games. During this stretch Durfee, who later drew a walk, has three doubles and a home run.
Roster Notes: Before the game, the organization released left-hander Austin Krob, 25, who had bounced back and forth between El Paso and San Antonio this year with a 5.93 ERA in 54.2 innings. Krob was mainly a sinker/slider pitcher who had some strong outings since he was drafted by San Diego in 2022 in the 12th round.

Prospect Watch: Kash Mayfield gave up a pair of run and allowed six baserunners through his first three innings, but finished strong as he set down the final seven batters he faced as he threw five innings for the second consecutive game. Last year’s first-round pick, who has largely been limited to 50 pitches this year, threw 46 of the 72 pitches for strikes. On the season, Mayfield has a 2.98 ERA over 17 starts with a very strong 33.3% strikeout rate. … A night after starting his professional career with a multi-hit game, Truitt Madonna added two more hits and drew a walk Wednesday. The 18-year-old, who earned fourth-round money to sign out of high school in Washington in the 11th round in July, has reached base five times in his first two games. … Kale Fountain set a new career best by recording an RBI in his fourth consecutive game. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Fountain has the build for a cleanup hitter but has yet to tap into his power with three home runs over 62 games. Fountain is up to 34 RBI with a .677 OPS on the season.
